York University’s Department of Theatre
York University’s Department of Theatre has incorporated theatrical sustainability into both it’s curriculum and it’s departmental research. Professors such as Ian Garrett and James McKernan spend much of there time working on green theatre initiatives in the Toronto area and internationally.
Students in the department can take the Staging Sustainability course which “addresses the need for theatre practitioners to study practices that are more sustainable for the theatrical production and design process.” Students taking the Production Practicum course also have the opportunity to work as a Sustainability Manager for a show in the Theatre@York season.
